Suzani “Tree of life”. Gijduvan. Copy of 19th-century. 2012.
The suzani “Tree of Life” was created by hereditary masters from Gijduvаn – Mavluda and Gulbahor Narzullaeva. In the center of the suzani, there are five rows of seven flowers, symbolizing the diversity and beauty of life. The “Tree of Life” is regarded as a symbol of family happiness, the continuity between ancestors and descendants, and prosperity. Such motifs were traditionally used in wedding suzanis. Along the border of the suzani are doiragul (sun-shaped) ornaments symbolizing the sun, and between them are branches decorated with pairs of pomegranates, almonds, and flowers. The pomegranate represents family, fertility, and love. In addition, the “Tree of Life” motif symbolizes the human life journey, from birth through the various stages of life.
