Suzani “Rafidagul”. Gijduvan. Copy of 19th-century. 2023.
The suzani “Rafidagul” was created by the hereditary masters from Gijduvan – Mavluda and Gulbahor Narzullaeva. In the center of the suzani is an eight-pointed star motif surrounded by the “Rafidagul” pattern. The shape of the eight-pointed star symbolizes balance, justice, harmony, and spiritual stability. Each of its points represents faith, compassion, wisdom, patience, and piety. The word “Rafida” refers to a small cushion used for baking bread, and this motif is one of those traditionally inspired by household items and natural flowers, created by women in the past. The Rafida symbolizes prosperity, kindness, and harmony within the family. The border of the suzani is also decorated with Rafidagul motifs, interwoven with plant-like islimi (arabesque) patterns.
